They said that with the internet and video who needs a magazine. Think again my friends. Growing up in the 70’s there was nothing more than books and magazines to take me away to that remote hunting or fishing spot. I remember running to the library during my study hall thumbing through Outdoor Life and Field and Stream, my imagination running wild. Nothing beats a good read, not even a video.

Southern Bass Radio

Southern Bass Radio is syndicated 8-9 a.m CST each Saturday on several radio stations in Tennessee, Alabama and Kentucky, with WNSR in Nashville serving as the flagship. Thom Abraham is the host of the show. “We’re going to have a lot of fun with it and we’re going to do it right,” Abraham said. “We’re going to have lake reports, focus on tournament bass fishing, and have guests on like (pro anglers) Bill Dance, Roland Martin, Kevin Van Dam, Jimmy Houston, Mark Zona and many more.” Scott Morris, one of the region’s top tournament anglers, will serve as co-host of the show. Southern Backwoods Adventures is now Backwoods Life and was created by three guys down south, Michael Lee, Kevin Knighton and Trey Wetherington. These guys are dedicated to producing high quality hunting and fishing video that will match any show on any channel period! Just check out their new show intro here! If you had a chance to checkout the site you can see that KentuckyHunter has contributed a fair amount to the Field Stories on MyHuntingandFishing. His accounts of his present and past experiences in the woods are well written and puts vivid pictures in the minds of those who read them. In his own words he describes himself, “I am so fortunate to have been exposed to hunting, fishing, and the outdoors from an early age. As an infant, some of my first solid foods were turtle and fish that my dad and grandfather caught on their trotline. Hardly a day goes by while sitting in my office that I don’t wish I were out on a weed bed casting for bluegill or strolling through a woodlot listening for a squirrel cutting on a hickory nut. To add to my good fortune, I have a wonderful wife who allows me to escape to the woods and waters of Northern Kentucky as often as I am able. This weeks featured member is Up North Journal. This site was created by Michael Adams of Michigan and basically consists of a blog and podcast that seeks to educate people about the great outdoors and the importance of introducing our youth to the tradition of hunting and fishing. His son Mike actually co-hosts the podcast and believe me it is very informative and entertaining to listen to. The format of the show is some discussions about their most recent exerperiences together in the woods or on the water and then some updates about recent news in Michigan and throughout the United States that could affect your outdoor experience. This week’s featured member is the Big_Outdoors. The Big Outdoors is a weekly radio show that features timely topics and guests as it relates to hunting, fishing and the outdoors and is hosted by Chip Hart and Rick Combs. The show airs on WLW 700 AM every Saturday from 5:00 to 5:30AM. It can be heard on www.700wlw.com and XM Radio 173. Chip Hart is CEO of Hart Productions which produces a wide variety of trade shows which include the Cincinnati Hunting and Fishing Show, Cincinnati Travel, Sports and Boat Show and the Columbus Sport, Vacation and Boat Show just to name a few. He is also the vice president of the Outdoor Writers of Ohio. Rick Combs is free-lance writer in the outdoors industry. He is currently field editor for Bowhunting World Magazine and is author of several books such as Turkey Hunting Tactics of the Pros: Expert Advice to Help You Get a Gobbler This Season and Advanced Turkey Hunting.
